THE CITY
Paris plays this imaginary role for many, to such an extent that for a majority, the contemporary reality of the city is an unnecessary and unfortunate distraction, a disappointment. The tourist guidebook that offers up the clichéd image, sprinkles in some history, adds a few key addresses, prices, and closing times, recommends an assortment of hotels and eateries, and provides a colour map with metro stops, will undoubtedly satisfy the hordes. That is all fine, but that is not what this guidebook is about, and those visitors are not the ones I assume you to be.

THE CITY
Nice, located in the south of France, in an area that is known as the Côte d'Azur or French Riviera, is France's fifth largest city, and one of the top tourist destinations in the world. It is easily accessible from most of the major cities. Nice's attraction to tourists comes form its beauty and its climate, which is warm, even in the winter months. Nice has a rich cultural and artistic heritage that is present in its numerous museums and its fabulous architecture. There are many festivals, such as the Nice Jazz Festival held in the summer or the Cannes International Film Festival, attracting people from all over the world.
